Located in Amman, Jordan Mrs. Widad Kawar has assembled the largest private collection of Arabic textiles in the past 60 years. With great passion, she not only acquired the textiles, but also collected the associated stories. There is a story behind every embroidery technique and every fabric. The embroidered patterns act as a social language that tells a lot about the wearers and stickers. During a 6-month stay at the center in Amman Mona Reich started archiving the collection.
A central aspect of the work was the classification of different textile techniques and describtion of the story behind the textile for archiving purpose. Also part of the work was the establishment of the Tiraz Textile Center and co-designing and -organizing the first exhibition in the center.
